January DCM/Conclave

On January 26th we had our Division Council Meeting and Conclave. Simone, our current Lieutenant Governor, presented members with updates for key clubs such as total division service hours, amount of money fundraised for the Pediatric Trauma Program, division goals, etc. As usual, those with members present from their club gave a brief speech, updating the division on their club’s activity from the last month. After the DCM was finished, we moved on to the conclave where the LTG electors were introduced. Similar to last year, we only had one LTG running for election: Jude Nieves, who is from our very own club. He presented a three to five-minute speech explaining his interest in being LTG and what he hopes to do in that position. Then, we finished off with a caucus, where two delegates (from each key club in the division) asked Jude questions pertaining to him running for LTG and we unanimously declared that we were comfortable with Jude becoming LTG. A BIG CONGRATS TO JUDE!! YOU’LL DO GREAT THINGS AS LTG <3.

Clovis West x Buchanan Interclub Event

The Clovis West and Buchanan Interclub Meeting was the first interclub event that we have been able to hold since the beginning of the pandemic. It was a Polar Express themed meeting and we watched the movie Polar Express. We also did a Color-A-Smile Service Project while watching the movie and having fun interacting in person, having fun eating popcorn and hot chocolate. We held the interclub event on December 18, right after finals week, so we were all able to relax and enjoy ourselves as we entered Winter Break. This was a fun meeting that we hope to continue with more of in the future.

Shinzen Japanese Gardens Cleanup

This month, we also participated in the Japanese Garden Clean-ups at the Shinzen Japanese Gardens at Woodward Park in Fresno. This is always a fun service project that allows Key Clubbers to get out into nature and help keep a beautiful city attraction clean. Key Clubbers help remove weeds, pick up leaves, and any other garden work that is needed to keep the Japanese Gardens as beautiful as always.  We are happy and proud to be one of the local clubs that is always able to come out and help keep this wonderful attraction looking beautiful.

Homecoming Game Food Booth

Our Homecoming Game, on October 8, was a fun event for the entire school. The clubs made food booths, and the Clovis West Key Club sold soda and water. This was a fun event with a fun atmosphere that everyone enjoyed. Key Clubbers donated supplies and volunteered to help run the food booth during the game. Everyone was glad to be a part of an in-person school activity again, after over a year of no in-person activities due to COVID-19. This made the Homecoming Game very fun, and the profits from the food booths will help run our club.

Miracle Mile Run

The Miracle Mile Run is a community run that raises money for the Valley Children’s Hospital Pediatric Trauma Program. The Clovis West Key Club was able to help out at the Miracle Mile Run by helping to organize breakfast, food accommodations, and by passing out water during the run. This is an extremely worthwhile cause, so the CW Key Club is proud to be able to help in any way that we can. The event took place on September 25, 2021 and the Key Clubbers who were able to attend helped a great deal.

Back-to-School Chalk Walk

This was a fun activity that the Key Club did as we prepared to return to campus in full for the first time since March 2020. Clovis West Key Clubbers made inspirational chalk messages around campus to help bring people back into the school spirit. With happy, welcoming messages, we hopefully were able to bring some joy to all the students coming back from summer break! The Back to School Chalk Walk was an important event for both the club and Clovis West because it marks a return to everyone being back in class together.

July Officer Training Conference (OTC)

The officer training conference was an important way that our club officers were able to gain information about their roles in the Key Club. The OTC is a useful part of the organization as it allows us (local club officers) to become better at our jobs. It also lets us gain a better understanding of our roles in the organization. The OTC additionally let us interact with each other in a larger group, even though it was on zoom this year. Overall, the Officer Training Conference was a fun experience that was also very useful.

Color-A-Smile Service Project

From June 8 to June 15, we completed a Color-A-Smile Service Project. This project involves coloring printed designs or creating original drawings and sending them to people in need. The colored pages are meant to share inspirational messages and bring some color and joy to those who need it. We had fun working on this service project. The visual selected is just one of the fun and colorful images that we hope to send out. The Color-A-Smile Service Project was a fun activity for the Clovis West Key Club and we hope to continue this in the future.
